Waleed Ziad is a leading scholar of Islamic revivalism and Sufism in the Persianate world, combining historical research with extensive fieldwork. At UNC Chapel Hill, he teaches courses in Islamic studies, South/Central Asian history, and religious movements, and his book Hidden Caliphate has been influential in rethinking the role of Sufi networks in shaping Muslim societies.
