Ahmed Ferhadi is a professor in the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University, where he has devoted his career to Arabic language instruction, applied linguistics, and Middle Eastern culture. Originally from Iraq, he earned his B.A. in English Literature and Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the University of Baghdad, later completing advanced studies in applied linguistics at the University of Edinburgh and postgraduate work at Cornell University. At NYU, he has served both as professor and Dean of Humanities, reflecting his leadership within the College of Arts and Science. His teaching and research emphasize Arabic linguistics, pedagogy, and cultural studies, and he is actively involved in professional associations such as the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, TESOL, and the Middle East Studies Association. Through his scholarship and mentorship, Ferhadi has played a key role in shaping Arabic studies in the United States, bridging linguistic and cultural traditions while guiding generations of students in Middle Eastern and Islamic studies.
