Anna Ayşe Akasoy is a Professor of Islamic Intellectual History at the CUNY Graduate Center. She studied Oriental Studies, History, and Philosophy at Goethe University Frankfurt, where she earned her Ph.D. in 2005. Her career includes research at the Warburg Institute in London, teaching at Oxford University, and serving as Associate Professor at Hunter College before joining CUNY.
Her research spans Islamic philosophy, intellectual history of al-Andalus, and cultural exchanges, with special interests in falconry, veterinary medicine, hunting traditions, and Muslim-Buddhist contacts.
