Ellen McLarney is an Associate Professor of Arabic Literature and Culture in the Department of Asian & Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University. She is a scholar of modern Arabic literature, Islamic thought, and gender studies, with a strong focus on how Muslim intellectuals and writers engage with questions of democracy, rights, and modernity.
