Hala Halim is an Alexandrian writer, translator, and scholar who teaches as an Associate Professor of Comparative Literature and Middle Eastern Studies at NYU. She earned her B.A. from Alexandria University, her M.A. from the American University in Cairo, and her Ph.D. from UCLA. Her book Alexandrian Cosmopolitanism: An Archive explores the city’s cultural legacy and won recognition from the American Comparative Literature Association. She is also an award‑winning translator, with her translation of Mohamed El‑Bisatie’s Clamor of the Lake receiving Egypt’s State Incentive Award. At NYU, she focuses on comparative literature, translation studies, and Middle Eastern cultural history.
