Irfan Essa is a Distinguished Professor in the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech and Senior Associate Dean in the College of Computing. He is the Inaugural Executive Director of Georgia Tech’s Interdisciplinary Research Center for Machine Learning (ML@GT).
Alongside academia, he serves as a Senior Staff Research Scientist at Google. His research spans computer vision, machine learning, graphics, robotics, and computational perception, with impact on video analysis, AI, and human–computer interaction. He has published over 200 papers, received the NSF CAREER Award, is an IEEE Fellow, and has held consulting roles with Disney Research and Google Research.
