M. Reza Alam is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley and holds the American Bureau of Shipping Chair in Ocean Engineering. He serves as Vice Chair for Equity & Inclusion in the department and directs the Theoretical & Applied Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. His research focuses on ocean renewable energy, coastal and deep‑sea wave phenomena, nonlinear dynamics, and fluid flow control, with applications in greener ships and sustainable energy. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 2008 and joined UC Berkeley’s faculty in 2011.
