Mahmood Mamdani is an Indo‑Ugandan anthropologist, academic, and political commentator. He is the Herbert Lehman Professor of Government and also teaches anthropology, political science, and African studies at Columbia University. His research focuses on colonialism, decolonization, race, civil wars, genocide, and the politics of knowledge production.
