Nayereh Tohidi is a Professor and Chair of Women’s Studies at CSUN, where she also directs the Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Program. She is a Research Associate at UCLA’s Center for Near Eastern Studies. Her work focuses on gender, religion, democracy, and women’s rights in the Middle East and Central Eurasia, especially Iran and Azerbaijan. She has held fellowships at Harvard, Stanford, and the Woodrow Wilson Center, and was a Fulbright lecturer in Azerbaijan.
