Yousif Shamoo is the Ralph and Dorothy Looney Professor of BioSciences at Rice University, where he has been a faculty member since 1998. A molecular biophysicist and biochemist, his research explores the evolution of multi-drug resistant bacteria and microbial adaptation under stress, with broad implications for public health. From 2014 to 2022, he served as Rice’s Vice Provost for Research, overseeing a period of significant growth in sponsored research and playing a central role in shaping the university’s COVID-19 response strategy. Widely published and recognized as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Dr. Shamoo is regarded as both a pioneering scientist and a transformative leader in advancing Rice’s research enterprise.
